In September, Germany’s Ifo Business Climate Index — a leading barometer of business confidence — fell to 87.7 points, down from 88.9 the previous month and below expectations of 89.3. This marks the weakest reading in months and breaks a sequence of continuous gains that had lasted for several months.

The decline comes despite recent monetary policy meetings at the European Central Bank (ECB), where optimism about the Eurozone’s recovery was highlighted. However, the ECB maintained a cautious stance, reiterating its commitment to a data-driven approach in future policy decisions.

Analysts note that the weakening business sentiment could present challenges to sustaining Eurozone growth, especially amid global uncertainties.
